چکیده
soil quality is a necessary indicator of land management. different indices are applied to evaluate farming systems, soil types and land uses based on soil quality. the slope of retention curve at its inflection point has been defined as soil physical quality index (si) but the relationships between si and penetration resistance (pr), the least limiting water range (llwr), and available water content (awc) have not been studied yet. in this study, i) the effects of soil physical properties on si index and pr, and ii) the relationships between si index and pr, llwr, and awc were investigated. seventy undisturbed soil samples were collected and the slope at inflection point for soil retention curve as a soil physical quality index (si) was determined in each sample using soil retention curve data. furthermore, pr was measured in soil surface, and llwr and awc were calculated. the results showed that the correlations between pr and water content, electrical conductivity (ece), sar, and si index were significant at p

Pectinase Activity of some Micromycetes Isolated from Agricultural Soils
Pectinases have multiple nature and various forms which are necessary for the hydrolysis of pectin in several conventional industrial and natural processes. In this investigation fourteen fungal strains which isolated from agricultural soils ,were screened for pectinase activity. Pectinase activity were measured in vitro by assaying released reducing sugar from pectin as sole carbon source. Asp...
متن کاملRelationships between soil physicochemical, microbiological properties, and nutrient release in buffer soils compared to field soils.
The retention of nutrients in narrow, vegetated riparian buffer strips (VBS) is uncertain and underlying processes are poorly understood. Evidence suggests that buffer soils are poor at retaining dissolved nutrients, especially phosphorus (P), necessitating management actions if P retention is not to be compromised. We sampled 19 buffer strips and adjacent arable field soils. Differences in nut...
متن کاملRelationships between Root Pathogen Resistance, Abundance and Expression of Pseudomonas Antimicrobial Genes, and Soil Properties in Representative Swiss Agricultural Soils
Strains of Pseudomonas that produce antimicrobial metabolites and control soilborne plant diseases have often been isolated from soils defined as disease-suppressive, i.e., soils, in which specific plant pathogens are present, but plants show no or reduced disease symptoms. Moreover, it is assumed that pseudomonads producing antimicrobial compounds such as 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) or p...
متن کاملSoil Quality Indicators
Total organic carbon (TOC) is the carbon (C) stored in soil organic matter (SOM). Organic carbon (OC) enters the soil through the decomposition of plant and animal residues, root exudates, living and dead microorganisms, and soil biota. SOM is the organic fraction of soil exclusive of nondecomposed plant and animal residues. Nevertheless, most analytical methods do not distinguish between decom...
متن کاملTillage Intensity Effects on Chemical Indicators of Soil Quality in Two Coastal Plain Soils
Few experiments in the coastal plain region of the southeastern United States have reported the effect of long-term tillage and tillage intensity on chemical soil quality indicators. The purpose of this study was to determine the 17-year influence of four tillage systems on chemical soil quality indicators in a Benndale fine sandy loam (coarse-loamy, siliceous, semiactive, thermic, Typic Paleud...
